WINNERS MAYOR OF BATH’S PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

Tuesday 1st September 2020

ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS –

MAYOR OF BATH’S PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITION

‘MEMORIES OF BATH, LONELY IN LOCKDOWN’

The Mayor of Bath (Councillor Manda Rigby) and Paul Gillis, editorial and commercial photographer, have made their final decisions for winners of a Photographic Competition.

There were well over 100 entries received for this competition, the first time the Mayor had run a photographic contest. The response to the 19+ age group was absolutely overwhelming, and so the Mayor asked for an additional winner by public vote in this category.

The Mayor said “I’m calling this, it was a success. We have had contact with many people previously unknown to the Mayoralty, and invitations have come directly as a result of the competition. We are finding the need for public service is greater during tough times. The photos were amazing, and spoke to many things we became more aware of in lockdown… nature, our own spaces, exercise, connections both personal and remote, food providers… all ways we combatted our own loneliness. We had such a hard job in judging, we really did, and all entrants should feel very proud of their work. In the end, although there were some truly superb other photos, for me the winners were the ones which artistically illustrated the theme, and provoked a reaction. The photos will be lodged with the Record Office as a permanent reminder of Bath in 2020.”
